Clement IV (?-1268)
Clement IV, called Guy le gros Foulques, is bornt in Saint-Gilles (Gard, France), (not sure) the 23th december
at the end of the XIIth century.
He was elected pope the 5th February of 1265 in Viterbo (Italia) after four monthes discussion.
That's right. The question was what is the position of the Church in the war against the house
of the Hohenstaufens. And the Church needed having the adequate man.
Guy le gros Foulques is noble, maried (yes, possible then!) and had a training
in the use of weapons.
He's the bishop of le Puy (France) in 1256, archbishop of Narbonne (France) in 1259,
cardinal in december 1261. Elected pope in 1265, he accepted the engagement of
young brother of Louis IX (9, Crown of Napoli, Italia)
